Bled is one of the most romantic destinations in Slovenia and all of Central Europe. Set in the heart of the Julian Alps, the town overlooks a crystal-clear lake of the same name. In the middle of the lake lies a tiny island with the Church of the Assumption, one of the most photographed sights in Slovenia. The island's main attraction is the church bell; it is said that a wish made while ringing it will come true.
Above the lake rises the medieval Bled Castle with impressive views of the surroundings. Nearby is the Vintgar Gorge, a deep canyon with wooden walkways and a turquoise river. Bled is famous for its traditional cream cake, kremšnita, served in every local pastry shop.
The lake is ideal for rowing, swimming and walks along the shore. In summer the town hosts many festivals and cultural events. In winter Bled becomes a fairytale destination of snowy scenes and roasted chestnuts. It is a place every traveller should see at least once in a lifetime.
