Plitvice Lakes is a national park considered one of the most beautiful natural wonders in Europe. Located in central Croatia, it is a system of 16 terraced lakes connected by waterfalls. The park was inscribed on the UNESCO World Natural Heritage list in 1979. The water changes colour from turquoise to emerald depending on the season.
The largest waterfall, Veliki Slap, is 78 metres high. Wooden boardwalks and bridges let you walk right above the lakes and beneath the waterfalls. Bears, wolves, lynx and many protected bird species live in the park.
Visitors can choose between shorter and longer routes depending on their time and interests. Electric boats carry visitors between different parts of the park. The autumn colours of the forest make Plitvice one of the most photographed places in the Balkans. It is a place that takes your breath away and keeps calling you back.
