Hutovo Blato is a unique nature reserve and one of the most important wetlands in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Located in Herzegovina near Čapljina, the area was formed by the flooding of a karst field. The reserve is known as a "bird paradise" thanks to the thousands of migratory birds that spend the winter here. Lake Deran and Lake Svitava form the heart of the reserve and provide habitats for many species.
Hutovo Blato is home to more than 240 bird species, including storks, eagles and herons. It is an ideal destination for birdwatching, nature photography and a peaceful break. Boats offer cruises across the lakes with views of the beautiful surroundings.
The reserve is rich in fish and a favourite spot for anglers. The surrounding hills offer excellent hiking trails and panoramic views. Local restaurants serve fresh fish specialities and Herzegovinian dishes. Hutovo Blato is a place where nature shows its gentlest and most genuine side.
