Bosnia and Herzegovina 7 days

A journey through Bosnia and Herzegovina is best started in Sarajevo. Dedicate the first two days to Baščaršija, the city's history, local food and the surrounding mountains. Don't just stroll through the centre; try to get to know the different eras that shaped Sarajevo. On day three head for Travnik and Jajce. Travnik was once the seat of the Ottoman viziers, while Jajce offers a rare combination of a fortress, a historic centre and a waterfall in the middle of town.

Staying overnight in Jajce lets you visit the Pliva Lakes and the famous watermills the next morning.

Then continue towards Herzegovina. The road to Mostar leads through some of the most beautiful landscapes in the centre of the country. Spend two nights in Mostar, as the town is an excellent base for exploring Herzegovina. Give one day to the old town and the other to Blagaj, Počitelj, the waterfalls and local wines. Use the last part of the trip to return to Sarajevo via Konjic. If you prefer nature, you can include Sutjeska National Park or the Una region instead.
